Founded on a Simple Conviction
CURWE began as a single carving table in a small workshop, built on the conviction that stone — the oldest material humans have ever built with — was being underused in contemporary furniture design.
Eighteen years later, that conviction has grown into an atelier of master carvers, engineers, and designers, delivering sculptural works to private residences, galleries, and architectural projects across fourteen countries.

Umang Pokharna founded CURWE after a decade working alongside quarry masters and structural engineers, convinced that stone furniture had been reduced to slabs and countertops when it was capable of so much more. His approach pairs traditional hand-carving with modern engineering — treating every commission as both sculpture and structure.

2008 — The First Workshop
Umang Pokharna opens a single-table carving workshop, taking on custom stone commissions for local architects.
2012 — First International Commission
CURWE ships its first sculptural bench abroad, marking the studio's move into global private collections.
2016 — Atelier Expansion
A dedicated engineering and CNC facility joins the hand-carving workshop, doubling production capacity.
2020 — Sustainable Sourcing Initiative
CURWE partners exclusively with quarries practicing responsible extraction and land restoration.
2024 — Flagship Showroom
The studio opens its first flagship showroom, presenting full-scale works alongside the design archive.
